Life is way too short to waste time or concern yourself with those things that don’t matter. Most of us will have jobs we don’t like. The question is, are we setting ourselves up to continue on the path of unhappiness or creating new avenues that will lead us to happiness and success?
Wake up early.
Sleep is necessary. But too much of it impedes your chances at being amazing. Make the most of every waking moment and create as many waking moments to make the most of as you can.
Now, coffee may not be your thing. But find something that will pick you up in the morning, whether that something is breakfast or a protein shake or a quick 2 mile run. We have to have the energy for what comes next.
Most people who reach a point of success work hard. And those who happen to get to that point without working hard end up falling backward unless they begin working hard. In this day and age, there is always someone else who thinks they are better than the best. And they probably would be if the best stopped working. I am not one who is big on placing celebrities on a pedestal but I will give credit where it is due. Jay-Z and Beyoncé, in my eyes, are both the best in their industry not because I am a major fan of either (I like Jay-Z, especially old Jay, but I cannot stand Beyoncé’s current music), but because they know they’re the best and yet they know they’re not perfect and, therefore they keep working to perfect their crafts. That is the hard work that we all need to exhibit every day.
Set goals. Know that, no matter how lofty they may be, you can achieve them. Want more for yourself and your kids than your parents had and were able to give you.
Keep your priorities straight, your mind right, and your head up.
Goals are important but you’re not going to graduate from college and walk right into a presidential election. You have to prioritize and focus (keep your mind right and your head up). If you fail to, you’ll end up disappointed for life because you didn’t have the patience necessary to reach your goals.
Do well, live well, and dress well.
You have to be a good person. Even if bad people seem to be doing well, they either feel empty on the inside or they will have a very difficult afterlife to deal with. But if you are a good person, I believe that good things will happen to you, even if it’s found in the form of happiness and not material things. And, when you get a chance to, live well. Go out to a nice dinner from time to time. Enjoy a movie AND get the popcorn. Go on a vacation or two every year. If you work just to save money or pay bills and you never really enjoy life. Who wants to live like that? And you have to dress well. You’ll be successful when you look the part you want to have (and put in that hard work I talked about earlier).
Do what you love and love what you do.
I said it already but we all have jobs we don’t like. But put yourself in a position to do what you love. We live in a day and age where we can learn anything just by clicking on a screen. We have to take advantage of that. Learn. Learn. Learn. And then, after you’ve learned, look for a chance to do what you love.
It’s time to start living.
Don’t let life pass you by. At the end, you’ll be disappointed. I don’t want that for you and, more importantly, you shouldn’t want it for yourself.
This life is too short not to live it to the fullest. So please, if not for me, then for your (future) spouse and children, take the time to give every day your all. That doesn’t mean you’ll be at 100% every day. But just give it your best. If you do, everything else will take care of itself.
