I don’t say what you can’t do. But I do say pay attention to the signs and adjust your course when doing something senseless. You can’t swim to Mars. You can’t walk from New York, New York to London, England. And you cannot (safely) get to your destination going the wrong way down a one day.
The same is true professionally. It is impossible to jump from the role of McDonalds cashier to Chief Marketing Officer. You actually cannot even jump from manager to CMO. Your course must be adjusted. It’s not about how you start but how you finish. So do what you must to get on the right path and get to where you’re going.
Make professional development a priority.
