A young professional needs a hobby. I spend all my time with a camera in hand. I’ve taken a liking to photography since my wife and I purchased one for our anniversary. She loves sewing. Over break, I made a point to shoot every day and even went to learn some new techniques with professional creative photography guru Reko Daye. Photography is both an art and a science. You have to know the math that allows a photograph to be under, over, or perfectly exposed. But it’s an art because you have to be able to see the beauty in things which others would overlook. And then you have to present it in such a way that it becomes either beautiful, interesting, or both.
Photography is my hobby. It is not an easy one to master. Actually, it is one that, in my opinion, can never truly be mastered because, in creativity, there is always room to grow which is why I love it. This year, work to find something you feel the same way about and develop it, whether it be writing, artwork, math problems, games (i.e. chess) or puzzles. Find beauty and love in something that you don’t get paid for and do it without being paid to. Then smile.
Make professional development a priority.
