The Morning Struggle

Ever have one of those mornings where you just don’t feel like getting out of the bed? That was me this morning. I woke up, worked out real quick (probably skimped on a few reps but oh well), showered, then hopped back in the bed. I did not feel like coming to the office today. And I probably could have worked from home. But here I am. Why? Because I’m tired and not exhausted. You have to be able to distinguish between the two. You should tire yourself out until you are exhausted and, at that point, take a day to recharge.

Even some weekends aren’t recharge weekends. This weekend is a perfect example: I’ve got a work event until 7 on Friday night, then couples night (dinner and bowling with a few friends), followed by a church retreat on Saturday morning, babysitting my niece that afternoon, a community service event on Saturday evening, bachelor party planning on Saturday night and then comes Sunday’s church service and a photos shoot on Sunday afternoon. All that only to jump back into the saddle on Monday morning.

Work hard. Serve hard. And, once you’ve exhausted yourself, take a day to shut it all off.

 

Make professional development a priority.
