Jansport backpacks are cool for school. Gym bags are great for the gym. But, as you get older, it’s time to start allowing your luggage to mature. Not saying you have to purchase leather pieces. I was fortunate enough to have been gifted the three main leather pieces in the photo above. The backpack was my father’s. The duffle bag was a gift from my wife, who knew how much I wanted a leather piece of luggage. And the Dopp kit was a gift from my father-in-law. Additionally, you see a black leather notebook and a leather field note cover, gifts I got myself.
I don’t like leather for the heck of it. It’s not a status thing for me. I prefer it it because the fact that it’s durable and, over the years, it will develop distinctions about it the will speak to my travels. So, whether you’re taking a trip with canvas (which I definitely am a fan of depending on the trip) or leather, know that what your taking with you will be able to tell a story years down the road.
And now, I’m off. Headed to Nashville for a few days for a work conference. Wish me luck!
