“I earned what they said I wouldn’t. Got it the way they said I couldn’t. But now I’m getting it and their whole grill is crooked. Mad ’cause I’m getting caked out for my bookings.” — Mos Def
Yesterday, I had a pretty good day at work. Though I’m not doing what I love, I am doing what I’m good at and doing it well. And, what’s wonderful is, it allows me to 1) make enough to live comfortably and 2) gives me the resources necessary to look forward to my future. I didn’t get born into money. Additionally, I didn’t graduate at the top of my class with a degree in a lucrative field. What I did do is grind and grind and grind until I reached a point that has provided me with the optimism I’ve sought for so long.
You don’t have to get to the top. You just have to get to a point in life where you’re able to see and reach for the top, taking one step closer with each day.
Don’t get content with the bottom. It’s a depressing place to be.
Make professional development a priority.
