As they began boarding Group 1, I pulled my essentials out of my personal item.
A book, pair of headphones, notebook, my iPhone, and the Nikon. These are things that I don’t sit in a flight without. Sure, sometimes I can make the book magically disappear and reappear in the form of an ebook but, for the most part, I have these things on my person at all times when I’m in the air and here’s why.
The only better places to read than on an airplane are either on your couch or in bed. When flying, you really can cut yourself off from the world and let your imagination run or pick up a skill your wanted to develop. No boss can worry you. No family member can distract you. It’s just you and the clouds. Might as well zone out in a good book.
But you don’t always feel like reading for the entire flight. You may want to sleep some too. With all the babies crying and little kids asking questions, headphones can be a lifesaver.
A notebook is optional for many but essential for me. Sure, I can record my thoughts on my iPhone but I am old fashioned and sometimes enjoy putting pen to paper. I do some of my best writing 3,500 feet in the air. Shoot, that’s what I’m doing right now.
Even in airplane mode, my iPhone can do it all. I can watch movies, play chess, blog (duh), edit photos… actually, the only thing I can’t do is eat the thing!
Lastly, I keep the Nikon on me because I love airial shots and you never know when you’ll get the perfect one while flying into a city or over a desert.
These are my in-flight essentials. What can’t you fly without?
Make exploration a priority.
