The Myth of the Option

This morning, I was washing dishes and realized something that I hope changes the course of my life. I was trying to decide on whether or not to go to the gym when I get home from work (I slept in this morning and missed my exercise time) and that is when lightning struck me: Options are fairy tales. If you want be great, you cannot act like the things that will make you successful are optional. You cannot act like saving money is optional. You cannot act like reading is optional. You cannot act like taking care of your body is optional.

This post is for me but I figured someone else has opted out of non-optional things. If you want to be mediocre, yes, you have the option to and the option not to. If you want to be exceptional, the only thing you can do is do whatever is going to get you closer to where you want to be.

Make professional development a priority.
